Featuring handpainted flowers accented with raised enamel detailing and golden decoration, this delicate Royal Crown Derby vase is an antique beauty. At 6.5 inches tall, this Satsuma-style globular-shaped piece is in excellent (albeit not perfect) condition. There are no chips, and its golden decoration has truly stood the test of time. The enamel is in amazing condition for its age, as are its rich colors. Imperfections include a crack just inside the vase’s opening (see last two photos), with a bit of crazing just underneath it. There is also crazing on the vase’s underside. In addition, there are small spots of discoloration on the piece due to age, as well as some errant paint dots that are original to its production (see 3rd and 4th to last photos). Finally, there is light discoloration on its inside and slight signs of wear on its underside. The diameter of the vase’s opening on top is 1.5 inches. Its base diameter is 2.25 inches. Measured all the way around the middle, its circumference is 17 inches. An orange-red underglaze backstamp indicates this stunning piece was made by the Derby Crown Porcelain Company (which would become Royal Crown Derby in 1890) at its Osmaston Road factory. Its date cipher indicates a production year of 1886.
