ROYAL CROWN DERBY “OLD IMARI” DINNER PLATE (UP TO 12 AVAILABLE). Up for sale is an elegant dinner plate (UP TO 12 AVAILABLE) made by Royal Crown Derby in England. The pattern is called “Old Imari” (#1128), one of the most iconic patterns ever produced by Derby. The Old Imari line was introduced in 1902 and is still manufactured today. An homage to Japanese Imari porcelain of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, Derbys pattern used intricate floral and stylized geometric motifs to emulate these original Japanese designs. Each Old Imari piece is beautifully decorated with dark cobalt blue (almost black) and rust red colors richly accented with 22K gold. The dinner plates measure approximately 10 1/2″ in diameter and have a 1 3/4″ border. The underside of each plate is marked with the red Royal Crown Derby logo used between 1964 and 1975, along with the pattern number “1128” and the date code “XXXV” (made in 1972). If you’re not already familiar with Royal Crown Derby porcelain, it has a world renowned reputation for excellence in design, quality, and craftsmanship. The company was founded in 1750 and their acclaim grew so rapidly that King George III gave them permission to use a crown in their makers mark in 1775. In the late 1870s, Derbys intricate designs became even more popular because they echoed the dominant Victorian aesthetic of rich ornament and delicate detail. It was during this era that Derbys wares once again caught the eye of English royalty. In 1890, Queen Victoria was so taken with their work that she bestowed upon them the royal warrant for Derby to become manufacturers of porcelain to her Majesty. The company thus assumed the name of Royal Crown Derby Porcelain, and the pieces from this regal past are some of the most elegant ever produced by the company. Royal Crown Derby is still in operation today and continues to produce some of highest quality bone china in the world. Condition of these Royal Crown Derby Old Imari dinner plates is EXCELLENT with no chips, cracks, fleabites, or crazing. They appear to have been used very little, if at all. These dinner plates look fantastic and were obviously well cared for. They would make a fine addition to any Old Imari dinnerware service.
