Delightful Fine English Bone China 22 x Piece Tea Service from Royal Crown Derby, in their acclaimed Mikado collection – which once again demonstrates the sheer skill and artistry of the Royal Crown Derby craftsmen. The Tea Service consists of Small Teapot (1.25 pint capacity); Lidded Sugar Bowl; Milk Jug; Cake Plate; 6 x Teacups; 6 x Saucers and 6 x Side Plates. The history of Royal Crown Derby began some time before 1750, when the Huguenot, Andrew Planche established his first china works in Derby. In 1775, King George III granted the factory the honour of incorporating a crown into its backstamp. In 1877, a new factory was opened at Osmaston Road, Derby. To the present day, and through changes of ownership, Royal Crown Derby has continued to set new standards for new shapes and decorative techniques. Beautiful decoration to all pieces features a variation on the traditional Willow Pattern. The scene, in deepest Blue, depicts the Mikado and his family, in their fabulous garden, alongside a flowing stream. The garden abounds in wonderful exotic trees and foliage. All pieces are in very good condition, with no chips, cracks or crazing. Gilding to the rims, footings, handles, teapot spout and lid finials, is bright and intact. The footed teacups measure 2.5″/6cms high and 3.75″/9.5cms in diameter. The saucers measure 5.8″/15cms in diameter and the side plates 6.25″/16cms. The cake plate measures 9/23cms in diameter. All backstamps include “Royal Crown Derby” with the Crown above the intertwined DDs. Variation in production numeral year cypher’s. Thank you for looking.
