Presented is a fantastic old Royal Crown Derby sauce tureen with underplate, dating to around the 1820s. The tureen, underplate, and lid are all beautifully hand painted with a vibrant pattern of richly detailed roses, gilt leaves, and little blue flowers. The rims and handles are richly gold gilt. The handles of the tureen are done in an ornate scroll form with a scallop shaped flourish, while the handle of the lid is done in a foliate design. This piece is in great overall condition. There are some minor losses to the gilding, chiefly to the rim of the underplate; please view all photos carefully. The painted decoration is in great shape. The underplate has some crazing. The lid has faint crazing near the edges as well, but this is quite hard to see. The tureen itself has no crazing I can find, and rings beautifully when tapped. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The underside of both the tureen and the underplate are signed with the old Royal Crown Derby mark in red. The tureen measures about 7 x 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches LxWxH to the top of the finial of the lid, or 3 1/8 inches to the top of the rim. The underplate measures about 9 x 7 1/4 inches.
