Fine Antiques & Collectibles. Derby Encrusted Porcelain Bottle Vase. A rare Derby porcelain encrusted bottle form vase. Deep cobalt blue ground and an explosion of floral forms encrusted to the body. Note also the raised gilt work to the body with flower sprigs. To the base this example has a pseudo Meissen mark rather than a Derby mark. It dates to the Bloor period around 1830 making it just short of 200 years old. It comes with the original lid which is often lost and is amazingly decorative as you can see. These pieces are sometimes seen listed as scent bottles, but of course they are in no way practical to use. Few are now seen, probably due to most being damaged and discarded way back in time. Inevitably there are a few petal losses, but these are remarkably limited given the nature of the decoration and the age. Overall it really is a most impressive survivor as attested to by the images. Height: 26 cm (10 1/4 inches) including lid. Width: 12 cm (4 3/4 inches). Weight: 1030 grams (before packing). Stock Code: 1996 JA20-1.
