This listing is for a fabulous antique vase from Royal Crown Derby dating to 1885 and the Aesthetic Movement era. The unusual bottle shaped vase opens at the neck into an additional hemispherical bowl such that the vase could perhaps be used to house a candle. Additionally there is a most attractive, double reticulated side handle which is pierced with scrolling and fan shapes. The vase is in excellent antique condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The gilding plus paintwork are fresh, bright and unrubbed. It is fully backstamped for 1st quality with the interlocked’D’ mark below a crown plus date cypher of crescent with two bars dating it specifically to 1885. It also has the retailer’s mark of the renowned Shreve & Co of San Francisco. It measures about 7 1/2 inches high. SUPERB Antique 1885 ROYAL CROWN DERBY Raised Gilding COBALT BLUE VASE Aesthetic. The vase is in a deep Cobalt Blue and the lower half is then highly embellished with intricate raised gilding of flowers, berries and leaves. The upper part of the vase has a moulded design of trefoils, plumes, arches etc with the detailing all picked out in rich gilding; this is echoed by the gilded piercing of the handle.
