Authentic Titanic 1st Class Royal Crown Derby A’la carte Restaurant Dinner Plate. This is an authentic Royal Crown Derby made for the Titanic. No this was NOT on the Titanic but this was made for the 100th anniversary of the launching of the Titanic. Made by the same company in England that has been making fine bone china since 1750. You can read more of the description on one of the photos. Though you can still get this pattern you will not get it with the original White Star Line Logo on the plate. He pattern was only reproduced with the original Oceanic Steam Navigation Company (OSNC/White Star Line) monogram in the center. Until December 31, 2012. Royal Crown Derby also reproduced the booklet they originally made to promote the Titanic. It also comes with a COA. That also stopped in 2012. This is real bone china. Not stoneware, ceramic or anything else. This is the real deal that was on the Titanic back in 1912. These are extremely hard to find. I was lucky enough to get one. The plate as you see is not only boxed but is sealed in plastic. The Navy blue box is showing a little white on the left side, that you can see in the photo of the box. I want to also mention that in the booklet it looks like a stain on it but that is the way it was reproduced from the original. I have the same booklet with the same mark. This pattern is almost never seen on the collectors market. This interesting note can be seen in the pattern catalogue along the pattern number of 8288 (as seen in the gallery of pictures, for reference). The plate offered for sale is marked with the very same number. Size: 26 cm of diameter (dinner plate). Made of fine bone English china and decorated with golden rim and a 3-D border, together with green floral motifes, applied by hand. It is in perfect condition, almost never used, of museum quality. Identical pieces have been recovered from the wreck site of Titanic. These ones were additionally marked with ONSC monogram, which this particular item is naturally missing, as well as White Star Line markings. It is stamped with Royal Crown Derby early XXth logo, together with brand of American china dealer from New York. Most probably, a very short series of these plates went to commercial market before selecting the pattern for White Star Line. Due to my personal knowledge, there was only one such plate. From the White Star Line service. In the dinner size recovered from Titanic debris field in 1994. It was displayed on the famous “Titanic – the Artifact Exhibition” during its European edition, ended in 2019. Some other, very few pieces of this pattern (but of different shapes) remain in museums and private collections. In 2012, this pattern was reproduced for the first time by the same, still existing company, of Royal Crown Derby. Unfortunately, pieces coming from the repro series do not match originals in regard to shapes, proper number of decorations and method of application of the ornaments. Certailny, they are also marked differently. The condition and rarity of this plate is reflected by the price. Condition as seen on the pictures. The glaze is absolutely perfect and shiny, with almost no signs of use. All the green swags and golden motifes are not missing any details, bright and sharp. There is one small imperfection on the golden rim, shown on one of the pictures. I hope that it will find new home, where it will be appreciated as much as it was by me. NEW White Star Line RMS TITANIC A La Carte Reproduction (2010) Dinner Plate by Ro yal Crown Derby. Until the discovery of this pattern in the RCD archives, it was believed that the “Greek Key” pattern had been used for the A La’ Carte Restaurant. Released for the Titanic Centenary, this magnificently colored plate is the RCD Pattern 8780 (2010). Other than a slight difference to foil resale as an original, the new pattern matches the original pattern (1910). This is a new plate, with no visible flaws. It has the lovely Oceanic Steam Navigation Company logo with wreath to the front and the RCD hallmark on the reverse. There is also a’g’ and circled’R’ to the left of the hallmark. I do not have the advertisement booklet reprint, which normally accompanied these plates. This really is the most beautiful pattern of china used on board the RMS Titanic. The pattern was described by RCD, in the original order, as consisting of a band of encrusted gold work with painted ornament of Chaplets and Festoons in the Louis XVI style, delicately finished in tints of green. Travelers who take their meals in the Restaurant of the Titanic will have their viands served on china entirely superior to that provided at any of the finest hotels in the Kingdom. I could not describe this plate any more eloquently. According to RCD, the original order for Titanic was for the following china: 600 dinner plates, 150 soup plates, 150 breakfast plates, 100 salad plates, 150 breakfast cups and saucers, 100 teacups and saucers, 36 creams, and 25 slop basins. The remaining service would have consisted of the beautiful silver provided by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths.
