At the time this listing was written, multiple china / dinnerware pieces were available in a variety of patterns, as well as various pieces of glassware, and collectibles, so be sure and check out my many other lots! The 18″ oval serving platter measures approximately 18.625″ in length and 15.625″ in width, and is marked with a Royal Crown Derby backstamp dating the piece to between 1877 and 1890, in addition to a stamp that reads “Richard Briggs, Boston. The oval serving platter has a white base, a cobalt blue, red/orange, and black Imari-style design, brushed 24k gold accents, and a gold rim and verge. The pattern has been discontinued, and the backstamp dates to the piece to a manufacture date between 1877 and 1890. Overall, the 18 oval serving platter is in very good antique condition for its age, though as can be expected with most any antique piece, it does show some light wear and utensil/cleaning scratching to the painted patterns and gold accents and rim. The platter also has two small (0.5 or less) areas of paint restoration along the outer blue rim. Lastly, the piece does have a few firing anomalies (small craters, divots, seams/slices) and wear along the foot from use and storage over the years. The serving platter was acquired as part of a much larger set with little history known; however, no major condition issues (chips, large cracks, crazing) were noticed upon a thorough inspection. Also, please refer to all pictures, as I consider pictures an essential part of my listings. A Wonderful Early Derby Cabinet Plate. Exotic Multicoloured Birds perched on branches with a peaceful scenic background, exquisitely hand painted by Richard Dodson. Rich Purples, Pinks & greens which really make the birds pop out. Quite comical appearance to the birds. Hand painted ornate Gilded edge with Flourishes, leaves & scrolls. Fairly neat backstamp in gold of the crown, cross & D. Small label on the back which says Richard Dodson ex Jarvis Collection. No chips or cracks. Has glaze crazing which has stained in several areas, this staining is visible in the recess on the front but in the right hands could be rectified. 2 Blemishes to the rim and a few faults hidden within the gilt band all from firing. Offered for sale is a stunning antique platter manufactured by Richard Bloor of England around 1820. Bloor Derby would later become the well known Royal Crown Derby. The platter is hand-painted, and it features a twisted rope style rim with hand-painted floral scenes and lavish gold gilt designs around the border. The overall condition of the platter is phenomenal for its age. It is very clean and there are no chips, cracks, or broken areas other than three short hairlines observed from the back measuring 2″, 5/8″, and 5/8 and some tiny flakes to the tip of one pointed scallop. The painted details are excellent with minor wear and loss mostly to the gold gilt and the white earthenware is still very white. The glaze is glossy with fine consistent crazing and there is no rubbing or glaze loss that I see. The surface has standard light scratches and signs of use.
