Antique Royal Crown Derby Porcelain Platinum Ground Hand Painted Vases 19th C. Offered for sale is a gorgeous pair of platinum ground vases that are fully decorated with enamels and small enamel beading. Condition is perfect, however one has about a 3″ by 3″ section where the platinum color is worn and there is light exterior wear. These are slightly dirty and I was nervous about cleaning them with the wear that was present. I didn’t want to make it worse, and thought I would leave it for someone a little more adept. They do display great as they are. One is marked and one is not. I can’t make out the date cypher but they date between 1878 and 1890. Measure 7&3/8″ tall, 4&1/8″ wide. A pair of large Royal Crown Derby vases each with a hand painted flower panel surrounded by gilding on an apple green coloured ground. The rear of the vases (and around the front panels) have unusual Limoges enamel type flowers (raised white enamel). The vases are 12 (305mm) high and have the Royal Crown Derby backstamp together with the date code for 1900. The flower panels are not signed, the signing of pieces usually only occurred after 1900 for Royal Crown Derby items (and Royal Worcester too). However, looking at the style of painting, they do look to me like the work of William Mosley or Cuthbert Gresley. Both vases are in excellent condition with no damage or restoration. Both vases have bolts attaching the base to the main body of the vase. Although this is fairly unusual for Royal Crown Derby, they were obviously manufactured in this way. This method of manufacture was also used by Coalport at this time. I have added a photo to show an example of a coalport vase manufactured in this way (not included in this sale). The vases are wonderfully decorated with hand painted panels of flowers to each side. They are signed by the celebrated artist Fred Marple.
