This exquisite 8 3/4″ fine bone china plate features the prestigious Royal Crown Derby “Kings pattern (#383), a premier example of Victorian-era Chinoiserie design. Decorated in a traditional Imari palette, the piece showcases hand-painted cobalt blue and iron red florals accented with heavy, hand-applied 22k gold gilding. The reverse features a rare cobalt blue underglaze backstamp with the definitive 1883 year cypher (a horizontal bar with perpendicular ends) and an impressed “DERBY” factory mark. Notably, the glaze displays a unique, natural crystalline “snowflake” effect -a technical hallmark of 19th-century kiln firing conditions. In very nice condition. No chips, cracks, or crazing. Condition : No chips or cracks; moderate wear to central gilding. Use : Dessert platter, serving dish, or cabinet display. A rare survivor from the painterly height of Bloor’s Derby, ideal for collectors seeking uncommon forms with strong decorative presence. ? Uncatalogued Derby Series. This piece belongs to a small group of Royal Crown Derby forms not currently documented in standard online references. While its pattern and palette align with Bloor-period traditions, its dimensions and shape suggest a less common production run-possibly a dessert or serving form.
