Listing for a magnificent and spectacular circa 1937 Royal Crown Derby Gold Encrusted Gadrooned Cabinet/Dinner Plate signed by the artist WEJ Dean that is ultra rare and hard to find. It has a date mark for 1937. It features a hand painted Scenic painting of a thatched cabin alongside a riverbed. It is in excellent like new condition overall with no chips cracks breaks or repairs or crazing and strong Gold and no signs of use. A truly beautiful antique Royal Crown Derby 13 piece dessert service. Each piece matching and finely hand painted with fishing boats within shaped rims. Comprising 10 plates, two dishes and a comport. Astonishingly they are not signed but can only be by one person, the well respected and collected Derby decorator W. The two diamond shaped bowls are 26.5cm wide, the plates are 22cm and the comport is 12.5cm tall x 22cm in diameter. All pieces with identical marks with the date cypher for 1897 apart from one of the serving dishes which is 1898 but only because the production of the set must of spanned over the new year period. The best bit is the the condition, all pieces are perfect, beautifully clean and bright and look nearly unused to my eyes. Wonderful set, very rare – especially in this condition. This is a lovely quality Royal Crown Derby porcelain tabletop standing display plaque that Ive seen identified as a menu stand, although it seems a little too fine for that purpose. It portrays Pembroke Castle, located in Western Wales, and was hand painted and signed by artist William Edward James Dean (WEJ Dean), who produced many works for Royal Crown Derby. The piece has a three flower shaped support at the back. The underside is marked with the Royal Crown Derby backstamp with the date code of I, which stands for 1938. It measures 4 3/8 high by 5 3/4 wide and weighs 5.5 oz. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or wear – this has been very well preserved over the last 79 years.
