Offered for sale is this antique circa 1770 Derby biscuit porcelain figurine of Summer (or a gardener). It’s nicely detailed. Please excuse the reflections in the pictures. The figure is approximately 5.5 inches tall. It is in overall good condition considering its age. There are some losses to the applied wheat and her head has been restuck (but it’s not obvious). Century Royal Crown Derby porcelain cup blue mark VERY RARE. This is a two handled cup which is beautifully made and hand decorated with flowers and gilding. The base carries a very early Derby mark as photographed and I believe it dates this piece to circa 1780. Condition: The cup is actually in superb condition (in my opinion) considering age. It is free of chips, cracks and restoration and the only thing I can comment on is some light wear to gilding and light scoring to the glaze in places. There is also some dark patches to the inner base foot rim which seems to be in the porcelain as the glaze is smooth over it, glaze also thick in the same area, possibly was starting to burn in the kiln during firing? This I have tried to photograph, however it is there from the time the cup was made / fired. All in all it is still a very nice cup and perfect for any collection of early Derby pieces. 3 high and 2 ¾ upper rim edge to edge. I have included a number of photos and these probably describe the item better than I can and form part of the description.
