NEW White Star Line RMS TITANIC A La Carte Reproduction (2010) Dinner Plate by Ro yal Crown Derby. Until the discovery of this pattern in the RCD archives, it was believed that the “Greek Key” pattern had been used for the A La’ Carte Restaurant. Released for the Titanic Centenary, this magnificently colored plate is the RCD Pattern 8780 (2010). Other than a slight difference to foil resale as an original, the new pattern matches the original pattern (1910). This is a new plate, with no visible flaws. It has the lovely Oceanic Steam Navigation Company logo with wreath to the front and the RCD hallmark on the reverse. There is also a’g’ and circled’R’ to the left of the hallmark. I do not have the advertisement booklet reprint, which normally accompanied these plates. This really is the most beautiful pattern of china used on board the RMS Titanic. The pattern was described by RCD, in the original order, as consisting of a band of encrusted gold work with painted ornament of Chaplets and Festoons in the Louis XVI style, delicately finished in tints of green. Travelers who take their meals in the Restaurant of the Titanic will have their viands served on china entirely superior to that provided at any of the finest hotels in the Kingdom. I could not describe this plate any more eloquently. According to RCD, the original order for Titanic was for the following china: 600 dinner plates, 150 soup plates, 150 breakfast plates, 100 salad plates, 150 breakfast cups and saucers, 100 teacups and saucers, 36 creams, and 25 slop basins. The remaining service would have consisted of the beautiful silver provided by Goldsmiths and Silversmiths.
